Deputy Director

Richard Jones, FCA

Richard qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. He specialised in taxation from the outset, focusing in particular on the interaction of UK and overseas taxation. He was Director of Tax Training for the firm before setting up his own consultancy to provide specialist tax advice to small and medium-sized firms of accountants. Richard sold the business to a listed training company and achieved his ambition of early retirement. However, this was shortlived and a second career beckoned in the form of risk analytics for an international bank. This involved the development of programmes in London, New York and Istanbul. Richard returned to his roots in taxation as module leader at Middlesex. He is currently associate professor in the Department of Accounting and Finance where he leads the taxation team and also teaches professional ethics. Despite a second attempt at retirement, he could not resist the lure of enterprise - he is currently engaged in the management of a real estate business in the US. In his spare time, he tries to play the saxophone and has made countless unsuccessful attempts to learn Chinese.
